Hi everyone, Ken Lear here! Today let’s delve into a discussion about leadership — something my team and I focus on quite a bit here in Farmington Hills, MI. If you like this article, share it on your favorite social media site!

Strong leaders are willing to go the extra mile to help their team members. They’ll do whatever it takes to give their people the tools they need to succeed. Maybe this means coming into the office an hour early or getting together over the weekend to help someone improve. The mark of a great leader is someone who not only cares tremendously, but is willing to take time out of his own day to provide support.

Strong leaders are extremely patient. They know that success doesn’t happen overnight, and they also know that their team members won’t develop overnight. They don’t get too frustrated when they don’t see the results they want right away because they understand that professional development is an on-going process.

Strong leaders are excellent listeners. They are always willing to hear people out, and they avoid interrupting. They are sponges for feedback, and appreciate the input of their team. Great leaders don’t judge or jump to conclusions; rather, they actively listen and keep an open mind.

Strong leaders ‘inspect what they expect’. They trust their teams, but they also understand the importance of holding people accountable. When assigning tasks or responsibilities, particularly those of importance, great leaders always follow up to make sure the job was done right. Not only does this ensure a well-oiled machine, but it also lays the groundwork for new coaching opportunities.

Strong leaders regularly express appreciation. When their team members do a great job, they want them to know it. They choose to recognize hard work. They know that sometimes a simple “thank you” goes a long way.

Strong leaders model a positive attitude. They know that their own mindsets have the power to influence those of the entire team. When faced with a challenge or setback, they maintain an even keel and never complain. They demonstrate to the rest of the team how to remain optimistic no matter the circumstances.
