“There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you are interested in doing something, you do it only when it’s convenient. When you are committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.”
― Kenneth Blanchard

This is an all-around amazing quote that truly captures what it takes to achieve major success. The truth of the matter is that we all want to be great. We all want happiness. We all want to succeed. In other words, we’re all “interested”.

The truly successful people in this world are those who are more than just interested. These are the people who have committed with their whole hearts to doing whatever’s necessary to achieve their goals — even that which is unpleasant, uncomfortable, and inconvenient. Accordingly, they are all about action. When they don’t get the results they want, they just work harder. When they make a mistake, they keep going. They are acutely aware that making excuses doesn’t get them any closer to where they want to be.

“The ability to discipline yourself to delay gratification in the short term in order to enjoy greater rewards in the long term is the indispensable prerequisite for success.”
― Maxwell Maltz

This second quote follows the first quote perfectly and here’s why: A commitment to achieving audacious goals is synonymous with delayed gratification. Successful people know that it is impossible to acquire anything worthwhile over night. It’s all about being patiently persistent. Real success is the result of consistency, which is the result of self-discipline.

Successful people are ultimately those who have the self-discipline to do the things that unsuccessful people don’t want to do. And guess what… successful people don’t want to do them either. But they don’t have a choice. Why? Because they’ve committed. They’re more than just interested — they’re obsessed. They’ve made the decision that they are going to achieve their goals — and that means doing the things they don’t always feel like doing in the short term because it will pay off in the long term.
