It happens to the best of us. Maybe the weather cold and dreary, work is challenging you, or life has just been really stressful. Whatever it may be – it’s time to get out of that rut. The best way to do so is to make small changes in your daily routine. Take a different route to work, or order a different kind of coffee. Small steps like these are going to help get you out of your rut and back where you need to be.

Here are a few steps to get out of a rut and become even more productive than before:

Switch It Up

Switching things up doesn’t have to mean big change—but change something. Try walking to work instead of taking the bus, bringing a different lunch, or taking a walk during your break. Think of something that is outside of your usual routine and do it.

Identify Why You Are in a Rut

Is work, family, or health taking a toll on you? Take some time and determine why you’re feeling frustrated in the first place. Figuring out the root cause of your rut will make it easier to get out of!

Start the Day off on a Positive Note

Try to start the day off with a positive attitude. Maybe the traffic is horrible – oh well, there is nothing that can be done to change that. Staying positive will help give you a more positive outlook on life.

Take Breaks

Breaks can do wonders. Powering through is not always the answer; the mind needs to rest every now and then. Schedule short breaks throughout the day and go for a short walk, grab a coffee, read a book, or chat with co-workers. The task at hand might even get done faster when you give your brain a chance to rest.

Give Yourself a Break

Sometimes people get into ruts because they have no time to themselves. Schedule a couple of hours every week to do something you love, go on a vacation, or just sit and relax with no distractions.
